drug store

$25.00
i found a wonderful old children's book a few weeks ago and used that tonight in a quicky collage. i'm not as happy with this as some others, but i love the image of the boy. so it is listed in my etsy shop.

vendetta

$25.00

some people find this collage disturbing. they should. what i love most about working with collage as a medium is the way the art makes itself. i wouldn't have told you i was angry when i made this 10 minute collage. yeah, right. i keep this collage as a reminder of a dark time in my life filled with rage and worry about my son as i was going through a horrible divorce. it's not what you think -- the rage was, and still is, directed at the legal system that would leave a child in jeopardy. to this day my best art comes from there -- those times when i allow myself to tap in to those feelings of anger, frustration, disbelief and loathing.

she looks like an angel

that's what my niece said about the photo i used for this collage. i made this collage for my mother last year for her 81st birthday. when i was 19, our house burned down and we lost virtually everything, including most of our family photos. a lot of my work now uses the few pictures that remain -- especially art meant as gifts for my family.

my sister is, in reality, more devil than angel -- but that runs in the family. an old family friend used to call my sisters and me the "evil triangle." with all due affection, of course.

randel plowman

my good friend randel plowman is a collage artist extraordinaire. i have been fortunate enough to take his collage workshop for the past two summers and encourage you to watch his blog for information on future workshops and exhibits. www.acollageaday.blogspot.com. check him out. wander through his extensive archives fpr a real treat. his bird collages are especially popular.

this collage is one i made in one of randel's workshops -- in fact, yesterday's collage was, too.

etsy treasury

i was contacted today by an etsy member who made a treasury http://www.etsy.com/treasury_list_west.php?room_id=22471
using my collage "dear mrs. larner" as her jumping off point.

of course i am more than thrilled and honored.

it's been a long couple of weeks -- alex has started middle school and i think he matured two years in two days.

i'm seriously considering going back to teaching. the grant i'm currently working under will end next year, so i have lots of time to mull the possiblities.

of course, what i'd REALLY rather do is just spend my time working in my studio.
